Fo and leave a long tail. You will use the tail to sew the foot to your turtle.
Head and Body
The head and body are worked as one piece starting at the top of the head. Stuff the body as you are working, I usually start
stuffing the head as I am decreasing at the neck area. And this is when I will add my eyes as well.
Sc x 6.
2sc in each st x 6.
2sc in each st x 12.
(sc, 2sc in next st) x 12.
(sc, sc, 2sc in next st) x 12.
Sc x 600.
(sc x 10, invdec) x 7.
Sc x 20.
Invdec x 13, sc x 14.
Invdec x 7, sc x 11.

(sc, 2sc in next st) x 17.
Sc x 125.
(Sc x 6, 2sc in next st) x 5.
Sc x 175.
Now invdec around until your body is closed, and weave in ends.
Turtle Shell
Sc x 6.
2sc in each st x 6.
(Sc, 2sc in next st) x 6.
(Sc, sc, 2sc in next st) x 6.
(Sc, sc, sc, 2sc in next st) x 6.
Sc x 190.
Now you ch1 and do a round of the crab stitch.
Earflap Pom Pom Hat
I used a bit of a lighter weight worsted yarn compared to what I used for the turtle.
Sc x 6.
2sc in each st x 6.
2sc in each st x 12.
(sc, 2sc in next st) x 12.
(sc, sc, 2sc in next st) x 12.
Sc x 600.
Now fo.
Earflap
Insert hook into any st and pull thru loop.Ch1 and sc in same st.
Sc x 9.
Ch1, turn, sc x 10.
Ch1, turn, invdec, sc x 6, invdec.
Ch1, turn, invdec, sc x 4, invdec.
Ch1, turn, invdec, sc x 2, invdec.
Ch1, turn, sc x 4, fo.
Now fold the hat in half and eyeball where you think the other earflap should go. I usually start my next earflap about 16st from the end of the first earflap. And work same as first earflap. At the end DO NOT fo! Instead sc around the entire piece then fo.
Now add tassels and if you like a pom pom!I do not stuff my arms because I do not like how they stick out if they are stuffed, but you can add a little bit of stuffing if you like. Then sew arms to turtle. I sew half of the foot to the turtle then I stuff it firmly then proceed to sew the rest of the foot to the body and fo and weave in ends.
Now for the shell I do the same thing, I will sew half of the shell on the back of the turtle’s body. But first see exactly where you want the shell to go because if you place it right this is what will make your turtle sit. It rests on the bottom of the shell and it’s feet. Then start stuffing the shell as you are sewing the rest to the body. It takes a little practice with your first few turtles to get the hang of it.
I hope you enjoyed the pattern, Happy Crocheting!

I love this pattern, and I start crocheting right now! I think you forgot the pattern for the feet. Could you add that?
ReplyDeleteThanks for this adorable pattern!
Hello! Are the legs worked with the body?
ReplyDeleteThank you Inge and CraftyChi! Yes I was copying and pasting the pattern...not sure what happened?? But the feet are now included in the pattern :)
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable little turtle :)
ReplyDeletehow to invisible decrease?
ReplyDeleteHello Anonymous!
DeleteTo invisible decrease insert your hook into the front post of your next stitch, and do it again in the front post of the stitch after that as well, (so you are going through the front loops of the next two stitches) now yarn over, pull through all loops on your hook. I hope this helps :)
Hi I'm currently working on making this little guy but I'm a little confused about what you "x" (times) means exactly, I'm used to reading other patterns, this is the first time I have seen this abbriviation, so you have put for ex.
ReplyDelete" 2sc in each st x 6.
2sc in each st x 12.
(sc, 2sc in next st) x 12.
(sc, sc, 2sc in next st) x 12.
Sc x 600.
Now fo."
So what does the x6 mean, is that just how many St u should have at the end of that row or do u do that row 6 times? Sorry if this is a silly question I'm just a tad confused lol
Hello,
DeleteOkay to explain what the "X" means...
For example lets look at this round......
"2sc in each st x 6"
Here you would do 2 single crochets in each st (x - times) six. So you would be doing a total of 12 single crochets.
Please let me know if this helps :)
Cool
ReplyDeleteI'm having trouble with the head. It just isn't working out. I'm wondering is there anything wrong with the pattern?
ReplyDeleteHello,
DeleteI am just wondering what problem you are having...I have not run into a problem with my pattern testers. If you give me a little bit more info I would be happy to try and help you :)
i love the pattern but dont understand what scx600 means? im use to patterns being in rows. could someone please explain?
ReplyDeleteHello,
DeleteSo sorry I usually don't crochet in rows. So that line means single crochet 600 times :)
hi i dont understand the pattern either? its not in rows. very confusing. please help? thanks
ReplyDeletepattern is confusing. not in rows. please explain ? thanks
ReplyDeleteHello!
DeleteSo sorry none of my patterns really use rows....I count the stitches instead :)
Hi, thank you for the great pattern, i absolute love it! I have almost finished crocheting but the arms look too short, maybe it's just a mustacke of mine don't you think 66 stitches are few?
ReplyDeleteGaia, italy
Hello Gaia,
DeleteI am not sure why your arms are shorter...are you using a smaller hook or a different weight of yarn?
Hey,thank you for the great pattern.i finished my turtle yesterday and it looks amazing.my boyfriend was so happy about it.
ReplyDeleteHi, the amigurimi is really cute. I am not really experienced in crochet (the only things I've done are octopuses) so, when you start without magic rings as in the feet, I wonder if you need to do first 6 chains and then the single crochet over them.
ReplyDeleteThank you
If you don't start with a magic ring, you could ch2...then do 6sc in the second ch from your hook :)
DeleteThis pattern is adorable, I've added it to the new site www.crochetatplay.com A new site to find 100s of free crochet patterns from all over the web. Updated every Wednesday and Saturday nights! Megan
ReplyDeleteThank you for adding it to your site :)
DeleteVery cute turtle. Am a grammie wanting to make it for grand daughter but how do you keep tract of counting 600 STITCHES? Also don't understand "do not join" after the 6 sc crochet in magic ring? Do you turn work around as in knitting? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHello,
DeleteSorry I don't follow patterns..and I don't write my patterns using proper rounds. I find it easier this way. And for the "Do not join" you just keep crocheting in the round there is no turning your work :)
It would be 12.5 rounds, I believe. I'm keeping track of my rounds by putting a pipe cleaner in the first stitch so I can zone out while I sc, lol.
ReplyDelete48 stitches in each round. This is for keeping up with the 600 stitches.
